Plan of action 1. Radiographs of the right fetlock area to assure the absence of a fracture. 2. Based on the radiographic results an ultrasound of the extremity should be done in order to assess the ligaments and tendons. Normally the deep flexor tendon is slightly more echogenic than the superficial digital flexor tendon. The suspensory ligament has a mixed echogenicity because it contains muscle fibers, which tend to be more preeminent in young animals. 3. Based on the result of the previous two exams a joint tab can be performed to rule out any infectious etiology.
