Prognosis The prognosis for both of these fractures is fair, considering the low fracture assessment scores, multiple limb injuries, type of fixation and young age of the dog. Femoral fractures generally heal without complication unless the implant loosens prematurely, however the bone plate should provide adequate stability to prevent this from occurring. Complications involved in tibial fractures after open reduction include osteomyelitis, implant migration resulting in soft tissue irritation, malunion, delayed union, and nonunion. The bone plate and screws will once again help to prevent these situations from developing. The prognosis may change depending on the results obtained from the radiographs at 2 and 4 weeks.
