Client Education Titan injured her right femur when she fell off the bed. Because it was never fixed, it healed abnormally. This disrupted the straight line that is necessary for extension of the knee joint. This causes the patella to pop out. We recommend surgery to correct this deformity. Without surgery, her lameness may worsen and her quality of life will be reduced. We will perform two procedures called a medial release and a tibial crest transposition. These procedures will realign her knee joint and return the right knee to normal function. The left knee is painful, due to compensation for the injured right knee. This pain will subside as her regains function. After surgery, Titan will need to rest for a period of six weeks. Please limit her activity and her play time with your other dog. After that healing time, bring her back to us for a recheck and more radiographs. We will send her home with Rimadyl to limit inflammation. Her prognosis is good with this surgery and she should regain normal function.
