Discharge instructions The dog should be put on a portion-controlled diet and should be brought in every two weeks for assessment of body condition and weight. For the first month after surgery, the dog should have leash walks only. The dog should then have controlled exercise and swim at least once a week to increase joint mobility. If the dog is discharged with antibiotics, they should be taken until completed. The rimadyl should be continued as needed. Within a year, follow up radiographs should be taken to re-evaluate the hips.
