Results Orthopedic Exam -Even under sedation, the ROM in the hip joint is 130 degrees, which are 30 less then a normal ROM. -The negative cranial drawer demonstrates that the stifle joint is normal and no ACL rupture has occurred. -The positive Ortalani sign bilaterally illustrates the laxity of the hips and no crepitation or instability in other joints was found. Radiograph -Increased width of joint space is seen bilaterally and is indicated by the incongruity between the femoral head and the craniodorsal portion of the acetabular margin. -There is less than 2/3 of the femoral head lying medially to the shadow of the dorsal effective acteabular margin. -The acetabulum is shallow and the cranial effective acetabular margin is rounded. -Subluxation occurs bilaterally. -Osteophytes have formed on the cranial effective acetabular margin. -Soft tissue swelling is observed by the increased radiodensity and is greater on the right side. -Slight changes of the femoral headŐs contour illustrate the remodeling of the bone due to joint laxity (subluxation). -Possible new bone growth is observed on the femoral head of the right femur. Note: Positioning of the patient is critical to observe diagnostic lesions. It is possible to alter the results with poor position such as an artificially shallow acetabulum by tilting the pelvis during positioning the femurs. We feel that bloodwork should have been completed prior to sedation to rule out any inflammatory responses and any generalized systemic infection. Also, a current body weight would be extremely helpful in determining the nutritional status of this growth dog and is needed to develop treatment options dealing with the nutritional intake.
