The Olney pancake race dates back to the middle of the 15th century - tradition says the first race started in 1445.
Local school children run in a specially organised children's event...
and concentrate hard on their pancakes!
The races are started by the official race starter....
And of course... there were pancakes aplenty!
Entrants to the race must be women, over the age of 18, who have either lived in the town for the previous three months or have a permanent residence in Olney.
However this year, the race had an 'extra special' entrant...
Blue Peter presenter Joel Defries took part in the race - to the delight of the children
Warning bells are rung from the Church steeple and the Race is started by the Churchwarden at 11.55 am
The Starter orders competitors: "Toss your pancakes - Are you ready?" and gives the starting signal.
Dressed in the traditional costume of a housewife, including a skirt, apron and head covering, the racers speed off along the 415m course, running from the Market Place to a point midway down Church Lane.
This year's race was won by Jane Hughes, finishing the 415 metre course in a flipping fantastic time of 1 minute 7 seconds!
Blue Peter presenter Joel put in an impressive performance!
When the race is over, the runners, officials, townsfolk and visitors pour into the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul for the great Shriving Service
The winner receives the traditional kiss from the Verger!
Winner Jane Hughes said that she was pleased with her time but the weather conditions had made it quite difficult.
