Dog was hit by a car 3 days ago and will not put weight on both his hind legsÑwe know etiology can be trauma "Ramon" is a 17 month old, intact male, black & tan Doberman Pinscher.Ñmaybe hasnÕt stopped growing, fragile at growth plate. Also dobeÕs have lots of congenital issues and problems. Already treated with: * 2L lactated ringers iv in 48 hours. * 500mg Prednisolone Sodium Succinate iv split in 2 doses over 12 hours * Duragesic 25mg/hr for the first 24 hours after the accident * Butorphanol 5mg im _ Cephalozin 700 mg s/c bid 1st day then 1000mg PO bid since.Ñthis means dog is still painful, despite treatment, not responsive to treatment He is an inside / outside dog and he lives with 3 other dogs, 2 horses, 2 ferrets, and 4 rabbits.Ñgot something from other animals (underlying neurological signs)Ñwhat can these species give to a dog? He has superficial and deep pain sensation in both legs and the tail / perineum. CNS is intact since he can still feel pain Reflex responses in the hind legs are difficult to evaluate because the responses are inconsistent and are not repetitive. Maybe minor nerve damage because reflexes arenÕt repeatable. Motor function is present in both hind legs and the tail, but weight bearing was not attempted. Could be fractures somewhere, so is too painful to weight-bear. Superficial skin abrasions on lateral side of R-hind, swollen distal to stifle. L-H swollen down to toes---HBC, edema; hit on left side and slid on right side (abrasions from pavement)? Instability of R-tibiaÑnot continuous in midshaft areaÑfracture Joints normalÑfracture or neurological Possible L-femur fracture?Ñabnormal movement and crepitation, but unable to localize lesion to femur, pelvis, or hip joint. Need to do radiographs Spine and other bones/joints are normalÑlocalized trauma to L-femur/pelvis/hip and R- tibia
