CLIENT EDU CATION Repair of left femur and right tibia fractures is possible with extensive surgery and intensive supportive care. The road to recovery would be long and extensive with a significant financial and time investment. This is not to say that the treatment would be unrewarding. With the proper treatment and care this dog could be expected to return to normal or almost normal function. In addition to the surgical needs of the patient, the current status of the patient needs to be addressed. If any supportive care is initiated the dogs dramatic blood loss needs to be corrected with a transfusion. If you (the client) are unwilling to make both the time and finical investment the over all well being of the dog should be taken into consideration. In considering the quality of life for this patient all aspects of the situation need to be considered. If you (the client) are unable to bear the financial burden of this situation there is a humane alternative. The dog could be put to sleep with out pain and to end his suffering.
