Marasmus:
Weight loss- seen in these pt. because of muscle wasting, lack of eating, and lack of 
absorption
 
TSF 5mm- indicative of loss of subcutaneous fat
 
UAMA 38cm- indicative of muscle wasting

High glucose- due to gluconeogenisis causing an increase in glucose in the blood which 
will cause also high insulin.  Glucagon will also be high which will trigger norepinephrine, 
catecholamines, and adrenilin to be elevated as well.

Low Alb- indicative of low protein status

Low Pro- although not a strong indicator, total protein can be used to diagnose marasmus 
at end stages

Low WBC count- immune system is not properly functioning 

Kwashiorker:

Weight loss- see above

Low Pro- definition of Kwashiorker

Low TLC- indicator of decreased immune function

Low Alb- see above

Low transferrin- indicator of low iron stores resulting from low Pro and malabsorption
