Kwashiorkor

We determined that the patient is experiencing kwashiorkor.  The first major indication that 
he may be kwashiorkor was that his anthropometrics were normal because they all fell 
between the 50th and 75th percentile.  Due to a depressed visceral protein status and a 
metabolic stress state (due to surgury) he has decreased prealbumin and transferrin lab 
value.  He TLC is decreased visceral protein and is a better indication of decreased visceral 
protein.  

TLC = (WBC x % lymphocytes) / 100 = 1155, which is moderate depletion.
